Why is a regulated
menstrual cycle so important? |
In Oriental
Medicine, the menstrual cycle is seen as a direct
indication of how the body is functioning.
When the body is in disharmony, the cycle may be
early, late, light, or heavy. By regulating the
menstrual
cycle, the health of the entire body can be addressed.
An altered menstrual cycle, when not related to
pregnancy or menopause, is a direct reflection of
trauma, emotion, sickness, etc. |
Can I have a child
even if my cycle is off? |
The body
undergoes several different stages in between cycles.
During ovulation, the body needs to build
up enough temperature and energy to release an egg
from the ovary. If the body is too cold or too hot,
the
delicate egg will not be released correctly or at
all. Body temperature plays an important role in
menstruation and ovulation. Slight changes in monthly
cycle may still result in the ability to become
pregnant. However, it is important to regulate the
monthly cycle in order to insure a healthy pregnancy. |
My cycle has never
been regular, is this normal? |
A certain
percentage of women have never had a regulated cycle.
In these cases it is important to monitor
body temperature changes in order to further understand
the situation. Occasionally, women may simply
inherit an unregulated cycle and still function
normally otherwise. In other cases, the situation
may have to
be treated. |
What mechanism in our
body regulates the menstrual cycle? |
In Oriental
Medicine, the liver is the organ which regulates
the flow of blood throughout the body. The liver
energy may be blocked or weak despite the fact that
the liver is physically normally. If the cycle is
off,
most cases point to the energy state of the liver.
Other cases may involve other organs in combination
or
separate from the liver.

How does Oriental Medicine
help regulate the cycle? |
Oriental
Medicine uses either acupuncture and/or herbal medicine
to help regulate the cycle. Points along
energy meridians which flow from the liver organ
may be chosen. Other points that help support blood
production or flow may be chosen. Herbs which help
strengthen the liver and kidneys may be chosen.
Both acupuncture and herbs have numerous ways of
helping to regulate the menstrual cycle. Both
approach the situation from slightly different angles.
Acupuncture focuses on the flow of energy while
herbs
work internally to help strengthen the body. |
